ART Advisor Awarded Major Commission Depicting the Signing of the U. S. Constitution
We congratulate ART Advisor Sam Knecht on this huge commission, a 5'X11' oil-on-linen, depicting all of the signers in the Assembly Room of Independence Hall, as they affix their names and discuss their blueprint for national government in 1787.
Sam is making use of special photography privileges inside the actual Assembly Room in Philadelphia and working with actors from the American Historical Theatre company also based in that city of America’s birth. Not only is he consulting with officials at Independence Hall and the Constitution Center on the historical details of the event, but he also is working with Constitutional scholars at Hillsdale College, where he heads the Art Department. In addition, he has benefited from advice from Richard Brookhiser, from National Review and author of books on Washington, Hamilton, and Governor Morris, among the Founding Fathers. For this project of a lifetime, Sam’s massive research is ongoing, with awareness of H. C. Christy's rendition (from around WWII) of this historic gathering, not to mention Trumbull's famous “Signing of the Declaration of Independence.”
The painting is due to be unveiled and installed in the Kirby Center for the Study of the U. S. Constitution at Hillsdale, when it enjoys its Grand Opening on Constitution Day, Sep. 17, 2010.
